A well-known local face in a Co Fermanagh chippy has hung up her apron for the last time as she heads for retirement.

Vera Vaughan, 66, worked at the Silver Dollar in Lisnaskea for the last 16 years and was highly popular among staff and customers.

The Silver Dollar has been on the go for the last 37 years, with Vera manning the fryers for almost half that time.

While Vera says she will miss the banter, she will enjoy getting to spend a bit more time with her grandkids.

“I’ll definitely get seeing the grandchildren more now which is a big plus,” Vera told MyFermanagh.

“I was there 16 years and it was always good craic and banter with all the staff and customers.

“But that’s the banter finished now! I’ll be glad to get the feet up and take a wee bit of a break.

“Jackie and Barry were very good to me over the years, and I got a great send off with lots of gifts and flowers.”

Barry McCormack from the Silver Dollar said it was a pleasure to have Vera in his staff for the best part of two decades.

“Vera was just so dependable and always very conscious about customer service and getting everything right,” Barry said.

“She is just a great all round person and we will all miss her here. She’s a very popular person about the town and anyone who lives her would know Vera.

“I often see her coming down the street and an hour later she would still be walking with the amount of people stopping to talk to her. She’s very sharp as well, Vera wouldn’t let you away with much!”
